Samples of AWW Material
There is a variety of
informational and promotional material being made available by the
Coast Guard in support of America's Waterway Watch. Much of
this material will be distributed to commercial enterprises
operating on or close to our navigable waterways -- marinas, retail
outlets, marine dealers, etc. Coast Guard personnel will also
distribute and explain AWW material during routine boardings and
inspections of commercial vessels, fishing boats and pleasure craft,
and in the course of presenting public education and public outreach
programs.

Coordination with Other
Federal and Local Maritime Law Enforcement
Agencies
The Coast Guard has
entered into agreements with other regulatory and law
enforcement agencies who will also be distributing AWW information to
commercial outlets and to other members of the maritime community.
America's Waterway
Watch unites Coast Guard Forces -- active duty, reserve and
auxiliary -- Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Immigration
and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, many
local law enforcement agencies and the American Public in response
to possible terrorist activity at waterfront facilities.
It takes a two pronged
approach consisting of face to face visits by Coast Guard Forces,
FBI, USICE, USCBP and local law enforcement personnel, combined with
a coordinated joint agency media campaign to reach Marina Operators,
Marine Dealers, Bridge Tenders, Commercial Fishermen, and the
Boating Public.
At least in part, this
operation relies on Coast Guard Auxiliary programs already in place
like the "Clean Marina" program, Vessel Safety Checks, Marine Dealer
Visits, Public Education Courses and the Commercial Fishing Vessel
Safety Program to reach their normal customers, the waterfront
users.
Coast Guard Auxiliary
As the uniformed,
civilian component of the Coast Guard, the Coast Guard Auxiliary has
the primary responsibility for AWW outreach to the recreational
boating community. Auxiliarists will generally promote America's
Waterway Watch through operation of the following
well-established Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) programs:
? Vessel Safety Check
Program (VSC) -- Courtesy safety examinations of recreational
vessels
? Recreational Boating
Safety Program (RBSVP) -- Routine visits to marine dealers, etc.
? Public Education
Program (PE) -- Scheduled boating safety courses offered to
recreational boaters.
